The short version
Will It Rain has no app account or sign-in, advertising, analytics SDKs or cross-app tracking. We use Apple Weather for forecasts, Apple Maps for place search and a Cloudflare-hosted service to send rain warnings through Apple Push Notification service (APNs).
Weather and place search
The app sends the coordinates of the place you choose to Apple to obtain its forecast. Place-search queries are processed by Apple Maps. Current location is optional and accessed while you use the app. We do not continuously track your movement in the background; a current-location warning uses the last location you updated in the app.
Rain warning service
When you enable Plus rain warnings and allow notifications, we send your alert locations and their names, warning preferences, APNs device token, random installation identifier and Apple-signed subscription information to our alert service. These records are linked to the installation and used only for app functionality: checking weather, delivering warnings, verifying subscription access and handling renewals or refunds. Our server requests forecasts for alert locations from Apple Weather even when the app is closed.
Your controls
You can disable alerts for a place, remove a saved place or turn off notification permission in iOS Settings. Reopen the app with an internet connection to synchronize changes. Turning off all place alerts removes the server alert registration after the app successfully connects. Apple controls whether notifications can be displayed; forecasts and delivery times are not guaranteed.
Storage and retention
Saved places, preferences and cached forecasts also remain on your device. Server alert registrations are removed when disabled successfully, when APNs reports an invalid device token, seven days after subscription expiry, or after 90 days without the app synchronizing. Forecast caches are cleared after one day and delivery-deduplication records after seven days. Verified subscription transaction status is retained to enforce access and prevent reuse of refunded transactions. You can contact us to request deletion.
Subscriptions
Apple handles subscription payments. We receive signed transaction identifiers, product identifiers, expiration and revocation information to verify Plus access. We do not receive your payment card details or Apple Account password. You can manage, cancel or restore subscriptions using Apple’s account controls and the app.
Providers and operational data
Apple processes weather, maps and push delivery. Cloudflare hosts our alert service and database. These providers may process IP addresses and operational information for security, delivery and reliability. Our application logs do not contain request bodies, precise coordinates, notification tokens or signed purchase receipts. We do not sell your data or use it for advertising.
Earlier test builds
Earlier test builds used Open-Meteo for forecasts and place searches, with notifications scheduled on the device. Those requests were subject to Open-Meteo’s privacy policy. The current release uses Apple Weather and Apple Maps.
This website
This site is hosted by Cloudflare. Hosting providers may process standard request information to deliver and protect the site. The site does not use advertising or analytics cookies.
